Shatterproof Panel of Experts

Just as Shatterproof was emerging with its life-saving mission and message through its peer-to-peer program, the pandemic caused them to stop and take stock. Even before the pandemic, the organization knew it wanted to make substantive changes to its social fundraising model, which previously had been a traditional registration fee/5K Walk-Run model.

The CEO wanted to move fast. Real fast. He wanted the best advice in as short a time frame as possible.

Turnkey’s answer was a group of experts empaneled for an entire afternoon after having studied extentive pre-work including event history, strategic plan, market analysis, etc. In this case our experts were DJ Hampton, John Vranas, Ann McNamara, and Katrina VanHuss. Katrina did the moderating.

The CEO, CDO, and CMO downloaded the pre-work in an hour presentation, then the CEO left the virtual setting while the panel and other chiefs hashed it out together. There were disagreements, agreements, pro’s and con’s, debates. There was wild-eyed ideation, and nods to the history of the organization. There were spreadsheets, data, graphics, more spreadsheets! And, at the end there were answers. Most were in alignment, a few not.

At the end of the afternoon, the CEO came back and listened and made his decisions.

Our work was done.

Ultimately, the CEO said, “I didn’t have the time to navel-gaze. I needed answers and fast. I had been understaffed for a while, and this was a way to leap forward to an answer. In many ways, the panel affirmed my thinking, which let us move very quickly. We transitioned our program in many of the ways discussed.”
